Video Captions

Your privacy is important to us. It is Video Captions' policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect from you through our app, Video Captions.

We only ask for information when we truly need it to provide a service to you, and we collect it by fair and lawful means, with your knowledge and consent. We only retain information for as long as necessary to provide the service you requested, and we protect what we hold within commercially acceptable means against loss, theft, and unauthorised access, disclosure, copying, use or modification.

We do not share any personally identifying information publicly or with third parties, except when required to by law or as needed to provide a feature you have chosen to use.

On-Device Processing

By default, Video Captions performs speech recognition, translation, and video processing entirely on your device. In this mode, no audio, video, or transcription data is sent anywhere — your content never leaves your device.

Optional Cloud Transcription

Video Captions offers an optional cloud transcription mode that you can choose to turn on. It is never used unless you select it.

When you use cloud transcription, only the audio from the video you are captioning is sent over a secure connection to be transcribed; your video file itself is not uploaded. The resulting captions are returned to your device, where they remain under your control.

We do not store your audio or transcripts on our servers. To produce the captions, the audio is processed by trusted third-party service providers acting on our behalf, who are permitted to use it only to generate your transcript and not for any unrelated purpose. We request deletion of the processed audio once your captions are produced.

Anonymous Identifier

To manage your subscription and your cloud transcription allowance, the app uses a randomly generated, anonymous identifier. It is not linked to your name, email address, or real-world identity, and it is used only to keep your usage and entitlements consistent across the app.

Subscriptions

Video Captions offers an optional Pro subscription. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store, and we do not receive or store your payment information. Subscription status is tied to your Apple ID and can be restored from within the app.

Advertising and Usage Measurement

Video Captions does not display third-party advertising, does not build advertising profiles, and does not sell your information.

To operate and improve subscriptions, our subscription and billing provider records anonymous, aggregated measurements — such as whether a subscription is active. These measurements are not linked to your name or real-world identity and are used only to provide the service.

Our app may link to external sites that are not operated by us. Please be aware that we have no control over the content and practices of these sites, and cannot accept responsibility or liability for their respective privacy policies.

You are free to refuse our request for your information, with the understanding that we may be unable to provide you with some of your desired features.
